## The short version

DocUp starts from your GitHub repository. It writes the first draft of user documentation from what the code does, then checks the draft against the code. Mintlify is a documentation platform where you write and maintain content, with an AI agent on its paid plans that can write and update pages.

## At a glance

| | DocUp | Mintlify |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Where documentation starts | Your GitHub repository. DocUp plans and writes the pages. | Content you write and maintain in Mintlify. Its agent can draft from prompts, pull requests and other inputs. |
| AI writing | Part of the product on the Free plan, which covers one project. | The agent is listed on the Pro and Enterprise plans. |
| Review | Automated checks against facts extracted from your code, then your own review and edits. | By default the agent opens a pull request for each change so your team can review it. CLI checks confirm the docs build. |
| Your repository | Read as files. Nothing is installed, built or executed. | The agent can read repositories connected through the Mintlify GitHub App. |

## Where Mintlify is the better fit

- You already have documentation and want to keep writing it yourself in a web editor.
- You want an API playground or an MCP server for your docs. Mintlify lists both.
- You want an AI agent that works from prompts, Slack threads or pull requests, not only from the repository.

## Where DocUp is the better fit

- You have a repository and little or no user documentation, and want a first draft written from the code.
- You want every command, flag and variable in the draft checked against your source.
- You do not want a documentation tool to install, build or run your code.
- You want to start free with a single project.
